The second (left) pedal is configured with the mounting design to move the spring and pulley to the shaft to function by itself. Additionally, the front of the pedal has it’s own rim mount to connect to a bass drum. You’ll notice in the newer models, they’ve removed both of these features from the left pedal so it’s truly a dummy pedal. Made to only function in conjunction with the right side pedal. It’s a luxury to be able to convert your second (left) pedal to it’s own standalone single if needed. I don’t know why, but that, along with other little components, I’ve found that the newer ones have been dumbed down. And cheapened in many subtle little ways. These are the BEST 5000 series pedals! I have a much older one that’s a single only. It’s been used a trillion times over the double pedals and it’s still going strong. The one, single 5000 is still going strong and I see it lasting from here on out! This pedal has seen moderate steady use. All of the chains, nuts n’ bolts, shafts, etc. Show no signs of wear. The floor plates and the stomp’y parts (aka, pedal plates) have a few minor scuffs… Which obviously don’t. Hurt the pedals’ performance (maybe just it’s feelings) – see pictures. One of the screw-down spurs (the screw with spike to grip carpet), has the sharp tip side snapped off. The batters are still strong and holding up very well – even the felt side batters. The spare drum key (left pedal mounted) and spare parts are included. I would rate the overall condition a 9 of 10, and the function. A 10 of 10. The action on both pedals is slick, smooth and graceful. These are super quiet and smooth pedals! No squeaks, pops, clicks, grunts or groans while playing. There are NO ISSUES with the pedals performance, quality or condition (save for the occasional scuffs and rubs). I can see these pedals outlasting your Fibulas and Tibias… And perhaps your offsprings too. They still have a lifetime of use ahead of them! Everything Works Perfect: Clean, Quiet & Smooooooth!
