Three critical design components have been identified by the team: the direct-drive linkage, the drive cam, and the drive/footboard connection angle. They then worked closely with a group of stylistically diverse TAMA artists to further enhance understanding of what high-level players want and need from a direct-drive pedal. The back-and-forth product team/artist collaboration enabled the mastering of subtle mechanical relationships along with angle alignments, ultimately uncovering a design method that overcomes feel and power challenges that seemed inherent to some other direct-drive pedals.
